TWO COLLING FAMILY GROUPS IN THE USA
COLLING FAMILY OF VIANDEN / DASBURG ORIGIN
- Collings - from Vianden/Dasburg, Luxembourg/Germany Generation List 1
This US Colling Family Tree orginates with Theodore Colling who came to the US from Dasburg, Germany at the border river with Luxembourg. There are other Luxembourg Colling´s in the US and we try to establish connections. We are also looking for connections between British and Continental Colling Families. We need more information, please contact:
joachim@collings-system.se I have not been able to follow up and update the email addresses and website url's mentioned on my pages. You should find them via a Google Search.
Only two family lines originating with Theodore and Elisabeth Colling are documented here because I am mostly interested to find the relationship between the groups during the 15th-17th century.
Most of the following information I received from Dr Jerry Colling, Californa USA who researched the US data - and obtained the Vianden/Dasburg data from Agnes and Egon Colling of.Utscheid / Germany. I should like to receive more information regarding the first Collings in the following list who stayed in Germany and who might be related to the family group in the Saar. Such information can be sent to my e-mail address: joachim@collings-system.se However, Brad Colling of Seattle has close contact with Jerry (who has not yet an Internet connection) and he has listed information regarding the Colling family of the USA on his hompage:

Home of Cuthbert Colling (on the left with Prof. Phil Colling, Texas)
If you want to know more about Cuthbert and his home Phil recommends to contact Mr. Russell Dawson, 20 Frontstreet, Ireshopeburn, Bishop Auckland, Count. Durham, England, DL 13 1EL. Russell, a direct descendant of Cuthbert, knows a lot about the family and lives just about 200 yards from the house in the picture. Many Colling worldwide come from Durham C and some, I know, are also descendants of Cuthbert. - To Headings
To HeadingsThe Colling of the Town of Colling, Mi
Some descendants of Cuthbert were the founders of the Town of Colling, Mi. which made it even more interesting to include this family among our examples of the migrations of our families.
These Collings were very successful farmers which might substantiate their claim to somehow be related to the 17th century Colling Brothers of Durham County who were the original breeders of the Hereford/Shorthorn cows.
(Here a note of caution is advisable though, because most Colling families have the same mythology about their background.).
Many of the Colling Families all over the world have their origin in Durham County of the UK. Because I got contact with Prof. Rick Colling quite early (and his sister Deborah had done the basic research as a thesis for her graduate studies) I tried to put together his line. In the course of this work I got contact with Dr Phil Colling and he found that his family line also came from Cuthbert. - To Headings
Further Note: I have not included Phils line and the other descendants of Cuthbert because I do not have the time to follow every familily in detail.
But I hope that some members of this energetic family one day might become interested to more fully record the story because it seems to me a very interesting example how one man and one woman came to a new country and contributed with their offspring to the future of their new homelands. I should feel very satisfied if my basic collection can be of some use - these pages can freely be copied.
There is the example of another pair of Collings who for example came to Brazil and now their "Colling" offspring count almost a thousand participants at their family reunions. Joachim Colling To Headings
